Emergency Carpet, Couch and Mattress Cleaning

For us, a job is urgent when waiting makes it worse. Water keeps soaking down into the underlay. Urine and vomit keep working into the fibre and foam. Some spills start to set. And sometimes the problem is just the clock: a rental inspection, a new tenant moving in, or an Airbnb guest checking in this afternoon.
We clean carpet, couches and other upholstery, rugs and mattresses. That is all we do, and everything on this page falls inside it. Where a job needs a different trade, like a plumber, an electrician, a specialist trauma cleaner or a builder, we say so.

Flooded Carpet and Water Extraction
Water gets into carpet in more ways than people expect. The usual ones:
- a burst or leaking pipe, or a hot water system that has let go
- a washing machine hose, dishwasher or fridge water line
- a tap, bath or shower left running, or a sink that overflowed
- a blocked drain, a leaking air-conditioner, or rain through a roof, balcony door or window
- the apartment upstairs
We bring high-powered portable extraction machines and pull as much water as we can out of the carpet and the underlay beneath it. Then we clean and deodorise the carpet so the damp smell doesn't linger. Where the carpet has lifted, we'll tell you whether it can be re-stretched once it's dry or whether it needs a carpet layer. Can a flooded carpet be saved?
- How clean the water was. Water from a supply pipe, a washing machine or a tap is the best case. Water from a drain, a toilet bowl or anything carrying waste is a different job (see below).
- How long it has been wet. Hours is much better than days. Wet carpet and underlay can start to grow mould within 24 to 48 hours, so it pays to call early.
- How far it went. Extraction handles carpet and underlay. If water has reached the subfloor, skirting boards or wall cavities, you will likely need structural drying equipment on top of what we do, and in a big loss your insurer may send their own restoration contractor. We'll tell you on site if that's where it's heading.
Sewage, toilet and drain overflows
We need to be clear about this one. If the water contains waste from a toilet bowl, a floor drain or a sewer backup, the IICRC S500 water damage standard classes it as Category 3 water and generally recommends removing porous materials like carpet and underlay rather than cleaning them. Cleaning can make it look fine while leaving contamination behind in the backing. If that's your situation, we'll tell you so and point you to the right people. What to do when your carpet floods
- Stop the water if you can, and turn off the tap or the water main.
- Keep away from power points, power boards and appliances the water has reached. If it's safe to reach the switchboard, turn that circuit off. If in doubt, call an electrician.
- Take photos and video before anything is moved. If you are renting, tell your agent. If you are in a unit, tell your strata or building manager.
- Lift furniture off the wet carpet, or slide foil or plastic under the legs. Timber stain and rust from metal feet can mark wet carpet permanently.
- Open windows if the weather allows. Don't use a household vacuum on standing water.
Vomit, Urine and Blood Stain Cleaning
A stomach bug going through the house, a toddler toilet accident, a bed-wetting night, a guest who had one too many. These are some of the least pleasant calls people make, and nobody needs to apologise to us for any of them.
We treat vomit, urine, faeces and blood on carpet, couches, rugs and mattresses. The affected area gets a spotting or enzyme treatment matched to what the stain is, then hot water extraction to rinse the residue out of the fibre, then a deodorising rinse. The aim is to remove the source of the smell, not to cover it with fragrance.
How well it comes out depends on what it landed on. Carpet and fabric covers usually clean up well. The limit is depth. Once urine or vomit has soaked into the foam of a couch cushion or deep into a mattress, surface cleaning can't reach all of it. We'll tell you before we start if we think that's the case.
A small, ordinary accident is our kind of job. A large amount of blood or bodily fluid, like after a serious injury or an unattended death, is different. That needs a specialist trauma and biohazard cleaner, and we'll say so rather than take it on.
What to do before we arrive
- Lift off solids with a spoon or scraper. Blot the rest with paper towel. Don't rub, because rubbing pushes it deeper and spreads the edge.
- Use cold water on blood, never hot. Heat sets protein stains.
- Skip bleach and scented sprays. Bleach strips carpet dye for good, and perfume only hides the smell for a day or two.
Pet Accident Cleaning
Dog or cat urine, puppy and kitten accidents, pet vomit, poo and diarrhoea, on carpet, couches, rugs, mattresses and fabric chairs. Fresh ones are the best time to call, because the less time urine has to soak through the backing, the better the result.
We break the urine down with an enzyme treatment, give it time to work, then extract it. Old or repeated spots in the same place are harder, and if the urine has gone through into the underlay, surface cleaning alone won't stop the smell coming back. Red Wine, Coffee and Food Spill Removal
Red wine, beer, spirits and cocktails. Coffee, tea, milk, juice, soft drink and energy drinks. Curry, tomato sauce, chocolate, grease and oil. And the general mess that turns up on the carpet and the couch the morning after a party.
Each one gets a spotting solution matched to what it is before the extraction goes over it. Most come out, especially when they're fresh and nobody has scrubbed them yet. Some don't. Dye from coloured drinks can leave a mark on light wool, turmeric in curry can stain yellow, and anything already set with heat or a household cleaner is harder to shift. Until we arrive, blot with a clean white cloth and a little cold water, working from the outside of the spill in. Don't scrub it, and hold off on carpet powder or supermarket stain remover until we've had a look.
Urgent Couch, Rug and Mattress Cleaning
The same emergencies land on furniture too, and each one has its own limits.
- Couches and armchairs. Spills, vomit, urine, pet accidents, water from a leak, or a smell that has suddenly got worse. We check the fabric code on the care label first, because some fabrics can't take water at all and need a different method. - Rugs. A soaked rug, pet urine, vomit, wine or coffee. Wool and natural fibre rugs need a gentler pH and careful moisture control, so tell us what the rug is made of when you call. Some rugs bleed dye when wet. If we think yours might, we'll say so before we touch it.
- Mattresses. Bed-wetting, a child's accident, vomit, blood, a pet accident or a spilled drink. We extract from the surface layers of the mattress. A fresh accident on top usually comes out well. One that has soaked deep into the foam or springs may not fully clear. See mattress steam cleaning.
Last-Minute End of Lease, Airbnb and Commercial Cleaning
Not every emergency involves a mess. Sometimes it's the calendar.
- End of lease on short notice. Moving out this week and the carpet still needs doing. You get before-and-after photos of every area and a tax invoice on letterhead with our ABN for your agent. - Before an inspection or a new tenant. A stain someone found at the last minute, or a whole flat that has to be ready before the next person moves in.
- Airbnb and short-stay turnovers. A guest accident or spill between bookings.
- Offices, shops and strata. A spill in a common area, or a leak that has soaked office or hallway carpet. Tell us the floor area and how much of it is wet.

My carpet is soaking wet. What should I do first?
Stop the water at the source if you can, and keep away from any power points or appliances the water has reached. Take photos before anything is moved, especially if you might claim on insurance. Lift furniture off the wet carpet, or put foil or plastic under the legs so timber stain and rust don't mark it. Then call us. The sooner the water is extracted, the better the chance the carpet and underlay can be saved.
Can a flooded carpet be saved?
Often, yes, if the water was clean, such as from a burst pipe, a washing machine or a tap left running, and it is extracted quickly. Carpet that has sat wet for a couple of days, or underlay that has been fully soaked, is harder to save, and the underlay sometimes needs replacing. We tell you what we think on site before we start.

If the water came from a burst pipe, a storm, an appliance or a neighbour's unit, it is worth checking your home and contents policy and talking to your insurer or strata manager early. Take photos first. Some insurers send their own restoration contractor. If you book us, you get a tax invoice on letterhead with our ABN to go with your claim.
